Ring Size Chart: How to Find Your Ring Size at Home

The easiest way to find your ring size at home is to measure the inside diameter of a ring that already fits you, or to measure around your finger with a strip of paper, then match the result to a ring size chart. Paired rings come in US sizes 5 to 9, plus an adjustable free size. Our chart below lists the inside diameter and circumference in millimetres for each size, so you can check your measurement in a few minutes.

Ring size chart: US sizes 5 to 9

Use the diameter column if you are measuring an existing ring, and the circumference column if you are measuring around your finger.

US ring size Inside diameter (mm) Circumference (mm)
5 15.7 49.3
6 16.5 51.9
7 17.3 54.4
8 18.1 57.0
9 18.9 59.5

This chart is also available on our ring size chart page, alongside other measurements on our size guide.

Method 1: Measure a ring you already own

This is the most reliable method at home, as long as the ring fits the finger you plan to wear the new one on. It is also a discreet way to find someone's size for a gift: borrow a ring they wear often and measure it.

  1. Choose a ring that fits comfortably and is not bent or out of shape.
  2. Place it on a flat surface.
  3. Using a ruler marked in millimetres, measure straight across the inside of the ring, from one inner edge to the other. Do not include the metal band itself.
  4. Match the measurement to the inside diameter column in the chart above.

Method 2: Measure your finger with paper or string

If you do not have a ring to measure, you can measure your finger directly.

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper, or use a piece of string that does not stretch.
  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger you want to measure. It should feel snug but not tight.
  3. Mark the point where the paper or string overlaps.
  4. Lay it flat and measure from the end to the mark in millimetres. This is your circumference.
  5. Match the number to the circumference column in the chart.

Check that the ring will pass over your knuckle

If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure around the knuckle too and use a size between the two, so the ring slides on easily but does not spin or slip off.

Tips for an accurate measurement

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers can be slightly smaller in the morning and in cool air-conditioned rooms, and slightly larger in heat.
  • Use a ruler with clear millimetre markings. Small differences matter: there are less than 3 mm of circumference between neighbouring sizes on our chart.
  • Measure two or three times. Take the measurement on different days if you can, and use the result that comes up most often.
  • Consider the band width. Wider bands tend to feel snugger, so if you are choosing a broad style and are between sizes, the larger size may feel more comfortable.
  • Remember each hand is different. Fingers on your dominant hand are often a little larger.

Measuring for a specific finger

Ring sizes are not interchangeable between fingers. Your index finger is usually larger than your ring finger, and your little finger smaller still. If you plan to wear a ring on your index or middle finger, or as a midi ring, measure that exact finger rather than relying on the size of a ring you wear elsewhere. If you like to stack several rings on one finger, measure with the rings you already wear in place, as stacking can make a new ring feel slightly tighter.

When to choose free size

Alongside US sizes 5 to 9, our rings also come in an adjustable free size, which gently opens or closes to fit. Free size is a practical choice if you are buying a gift and do not know the recipient's size, if you like to move rings between fingers, or if your measurement falls between two sizes. Check the size options on each product page in our rings collection.

Choosing your finish

Once you know your size, the next decision is colour. Our rings, like all Paired jewellery, are 18k plated waterproof stainless steel, made to be anti-tarnish and hypoallergenic. Choose from gold, rose gold and silver finishes. If you also wear shoes from us, our guide on how to measure your shoe size at home follows the same simple approach.

FAQs

What is the most common women's ring size?

Ring sizes vary widely from person to person, and even between fingers on the same hand, so it is always better to measure than to guess. Our chart covers US sizes 5 to 9, and free size styles offer an adjustable fit.

Can I measure my ring size with a phone or ruler?

Yes. A ruler marked in millimetres is all you need. Measure the inside diameter of an existing ring, or the circumference of your finger using paper or string, then compare it with the chart.

What if I am between two ring sizes?

Choose the larger size, particularly for wider bands, or opt for an adjustable free size ring.
